Fingerprint remains the most deployed biometric method in India for a simple reason: it is the cheapest reliable way to prove a specific person was physically present. The weakness has never been the sensor — it is what happens to the enrolled templates when the machine is replaced.

A fingerprint attendance system verifies an employee against a stored mathematical template of their fingerprint. The critical design question is where that template lives. If it exists only on the terminal, replacing or resetting the device means re-enrolling every employee by hand. AionHRMS stores templates centrally and re-pushes them to any supported terminal, so a device swap is a ten-minute job rather than a two-day one — and the same attendance feeds shift-wise payroll.

The template problem nobody warns you about

Fingerprint enrolment is the single largest time cost of any attendance rollout. Doing it once is a day. Doing it again because a terminal failed, or because you opened a second door, is the reason so many systems get abandoned.

  • Templates captured at one terminal are stored centrally by AionHRMS

Frequently asked questions

What happens if our fingerprint machine is replaced?
Register the new terminal and push your employee list to it. Because templates are stored centrally, the stored fingerprints go with them — nobody re-enrols. This is the single biggest practical difference from device-only storage.
How many fingerprints can be enrolled per person?
That depends on the terminal, which typically supports multiple fingers per user. AionHRMS stores each captured template with its finger index and pushes them all.
Some of our workers' fingerprints do not read. What do we do?
Issue RFID cards or enrol them on face where the terminal supports it. Both are recorded as verifications like any other punch, so those workers stay in the register rather than being handled on paper.
Is a fingerprint image stored anywhere?
No. Terminals compute a mathematical template. The image is not retained, and templates are never shown in the interface or included in an ordinary export.
